Skigaarden apartments: which building to book
Priser och uppgifter kontrollerade .
Skigaarden's apartments sit in three buildings, and the building matters more than the number. Utsikten is inside the main house with indoor access to the restaurants, Skigaarden 8 is a short walk away with garage parking, and Storgaarden 2 opens onto the slope. Rates run from NOK 1,073 to NOK 1,476 a night.

From kr 1073/NightWhat you are booking when you book an apartment here
Skigaarden stands at the heart of Hemsedal Skisenter, 1,013 metres up in the Holdeskaret valley, and the accommodation runs all year rather than closing with the lifts. That matters for an apartment booking because you are choosing a base inside a working resort: the main house holds the restaurants and the wine cellar, and the apartments are the self-catering version of the same stay. Which building you are in decides almost everything else.
Utsikten, Skigaarden 8 or Storgaarden 2: pick the building first
Utsikten is inside the main building, which is why its apartments come with indoor access to the restaurants: dinner is a corridor away rather than a walk through the snow. The apartments run from 87 to 135 sqm and sleep six or eight. Skigaarden 8 is its own building a short walk from the main house, with 79 to 99 sqm apartments, a private sports storage room and a space in the underground garage; 8-5 is the only apartment with lift access straight from the garage, which is worth knowing if you arrive with a car full of gear.
Storgaarden 2 goes the other way. It is one 55 sqm layout repeated across the numbered apartments, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a front door that opens onto the slope, which is what ski-in/ski-out means here. If the shortest walk to dinner matters most, take Utsikten. If it is the first run of the morning, take Storgaarden 2.
Where the money goes between NOK 1,073 and NOK 1,476
Skigaarden 8-1 is the cheapest apartment at NOK 1,073 a night, and it gives you 80 sqm for six people. The dearest are Skigaarden 8-7 and 8-8 at NOK 1,476, with 96 and 99 sqm and beds for eight. The Storgaarden 2 apartments all sit at NOK 1,233, and Utsikten is NOK 1,341 for the 87 sqm apartments and NOK 1,409 for the larger ones.
The gap between the cheapest and the dearest buys space and bathrooms, not a better position, because 8-1 and 8-8 are in the same building. It also does not buy slope access: the Storgaarden 2 apartments, which open straight onto the run, cost less than every Utsikten apartment. Paying up here gets you room to spread out, not a shorter walk.
Six beds or eight, and who ends up on a bunk
The apartments sleep six or eight. Utsikten 3, Utsikten 4, Skigaarden 8-7 and Skigaarden 8-8 are the eight-person ones, and they get there in two different ways: Utsikten 3 and 4 use a fourth bedroom, while Skigaarden 8-7 and 8-8 use three bedrooms plus a sofa bed in the TV room. Everything else sleeps six, including the two 135 sqm Utsikten apartments, where the extra floor space goes into a second living room rather than more beds.
The layout repeats across the resort: a master bedroom with a double bed and its own bathroom, then guest rooms with bunk beds sharing a second bathroom. That is what makes these apartments work for families rather than for four couples sharing, and it is why the bunk rooms are the ones to think about when you are counting heads.
Fixed dates, free ski buses and the walk from the car
Stays are booked in fixed date combinations rather than any night you choose: Sunday to Thursday, Sunday to Friday, Sunday to Sunday, Thursday to Sunday, or Friday to Sunday. From 1 June to 30 November that loosens and flexible booking applies, with the Storelia cabins the exception; if your dates fall outside the patterns, the property takes requests. Once you are in the valley the Hemsedal Ski Bus is free and stops at Skigaarden on its way between Ulsåk and Storelia, roughly every hour from morning into the early evening. The run down to the town centre takes about 25 minutes, and the timetable changes through the season, so download the current one before you rely on it.
Arriving without a car takes planning. The nearest railway station is at Gol on the Oslo to Bergen line, and the onward bus or taxi leg needs arranging in advance; Brakar runs the local buses and Entur will string a full journey together. By road from Bergen the route goes E16 towards Lærdal and Borlaug, then the Fv52.
Vanliga frågor
- How much is an apartment at Skigaarden per night?
- Apartments start at NOK 1,073 a night and go up to NOK 1,476. Skigaarden 8-1 is the cheapest, at NOK 1,073 for 80 sqm and six people, while Skigaarden 8-7 and 8-8 are the dearest at NOK 1,476 for 96 and 99 sqm and eight people. The Storgaarden 2 apartments are all NOK 1,233, and the Utsikten ones are NOK 1,341 or NOK 1,409 depending on size.
- Is Skigaarden ski-in ski-out?
- The Storgaarden 2 apartments are, with the run at the front door and the restaurants a short walk away. The Storgaarden 1 chalets and Stølen Lodge also sit on the edge of the slope. For Utsikten, which is inside the main building, and Skigaarden 8, which is a short walk from it, ask how far the walk to the lift is in snow before you book.
- What apartments are available at Skigaarden?
- There are three groups, one per building. Utsikten, inside the main building, runs from 87 to 135 sqm. Skigaarden 8, its own building a short walk away, runs from 79 to 99 sqm. Storgaarden 2 is a single 55 sqm layout repeated across the numbered apartments on the slope.
- How many people can stay in a Skigaarden apartment?
- Six or eight, depending on the apartment. The eight-person apartments are Utsikten 3, Utsikten 4, Skigaarden 8-7 and Skigaarden 8-8. Everything else sleeps six, including the two 135 sqm Utsikten apartments, where the extra square metres go into living space instead of beds.
- Is Skigaarden good for families?
- Yes, and the bunk beds are the reason. Every apartment has a master bedroom with a double bed plus guest rooms with bunk beds, so children sleep in a room of their own rather than in the living area, and each one has a kitchen for breakfast before the lifts open. Dagligstugu in the main house is the family restaurant, with stone-oven pizza and Norwegian classics such as meatballs with mash and lingonberry.
- Does Skigaarden have apartments with a kitchen?
- Every apartment has one. The 55 sqm Storgaarden 2 apartments have a kitchenette with a dining table for six, which covers breakfast and evening snacks. The Utsikten and Skigaarden 8 apartments have a fully equipped kitchen and a larger dining table.
- Is breakfast included at Skigaarden apartments?
- Only at Storgaarden 2-3, which comes with breakfast and dinner in the rate. Every other apartment is booked on its own, so you cook or eat in the main house, where the restaurants cover lunch and dinner.
- What is included in a Skigaarden apartment?
- Two bathrooms in most of them, three in Skigaarden 8-7 and 8-8, plus a private balcony or terrace. The Skigaarden 8 apartments each add a private sports storage room and one space in the underground garage, and Storgaarden 2-2 and 2-3 list a dedicated garage space too. Ask about bed linen, towels and end-of-stay cleaning when you book.
- What is the minimum stay at Skigaarden?
- Stays are booked in fixed date combinations rather than by the night: Sunday to Thursday, Sunday to Friday, Sunday to Sunday, Thursday to Sunday, or Friday to Sunday. Those patterns apply through the winter season. Dates outside them need a request to the property, which will come back with what is possible.
- Is Skigaarden open in summer?
- Yes. The accommodation runs year-round, and the restaurant side opens for the summer season on Saturday 28 June, with Dagligstugu serving a shorter menu of pizza and sandwiches. Summer and autumn dates from 1 June to 30 November can be booked flexibly, apart from the Storelia cabins.
