Hallwylska Museet

Hallwylska Museet is a historic-house museum in the former Stockholm residence of Count Walther von Hallwyl and Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, built between 1893 and 1898 by architect Isak Gustaf Clason. It stands at Hamngatan 4, opposite Berzelii Park on Norrmalm and a few steps from the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Dramaten. The 2,000-square-metre palace contains 40 rooms, including richly decorated salons, a dining room, office spaces, a working kitchen, and early modern bathrooms; Wilhelmina’s extensive art, antiques, textiles, weapons, and everyday collections remain central to the displays. The couple donated the house and its contents to the Swedish state in 1920, and it opened as a public museum in 1938. It is generally closed Mondays, open Tuesday 12:00–16:00, Wednesday 12:00–19:00, Thursday–Friday 12:00–16:00, and Saturday–Sunday 11:00–17:00; guided tours should be booked in advance, especially on weekends.
