Livrustkammaren The Royal Armoury

Livrustkammaren, or The Royal Armoury, is a museum of Swedish royal history in the southeastern corner of Stockholm Palace, entered from Slottsbacken 3 in Gamla Stan, Stockholm 111 30. Its origins date to 1628, when King Gustav II Adolf ordered the preservation of clothing from his Polish campaign; it became a public museum in 1885 and returned to the palace vaults in 1978. The collection covers roughly 500 years and includes the stuffed horse Streiff, King Karl XII’s muddy blue uniform from 1718, Queen Sofia Magdalena’s wedding dress from 1766, Gustav III’s masquerade clothing from 1792, ceremonial armour, royal carriages, and coronation and funeral regalia. It is an independent museum despite sharing the palace building, so it has a separate entrance and ticket from the Royal Palace museums. Opening hours vary seasonally: typically Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, with Thursday evenings until 20:00; during June through August it generally opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00, while summer tours for adults and families are offered in Swedish and English.
