Sjöbaren

Sjöbaren is a fish-and-seafood restaurant at Haga Nygata 25 in Gothenburg’s historic Haga district, about a seven-minute walk from Järntorget along the cobbled pedestrian street. The building was completed in 1869 and has also housed a free church, a stocking factory, and a nightclub; Sjöbaren took over the premises in the late 1990s. Its menu focuses on fresh fish and shellfish supplied from Gothenburg’s harbour, including seafood soup, mussels, oysters, shrimp sandwiches, smoked and marinated salmon, and cod gratin with shrimp and white-wine sauce. The restaurant has an inner courtyard and serves weekday lunch from 11:00 to 14:00, with opening hours generally Monday–Friday from 11:00, Saturday from 12:00, and Sunday from 13:00 to 22:00; booking ahead is sensible for evening tables and weekends.
