Witch museum in Prästmon
The Witch Museum in Prästmon sits at Folkhögskolevägen 5 in the village of Nyland, about 15 kilometers from Häxberget where the 1675 Torsåker witch trials executions happened. It's a small museum dedicated to those trials, when on a single day in spring 1675, 71 people—65 women and 6 men—were beheaded by Mayor Erik Lund from Härnösand and then burned on the mountainside called Bålberget or Witch Mountain. The exhibits cover the hysteria that swept Ångermanland province, part of Sweden's largest witch hunt claiming around 400 lives nationwide that century. Inside the same building, you'll find a puppet museum displaying figures from two decades of Raja Theatre performances. It operates June through August, daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free WiFi and restrooms available, and most folks spend under an hour there. Pair it with the 7.5 km Witches' Path hike from Torsåker Church to the execution site for the full picture.
