Göta Lejon

Göta Lejon is a historic theatre and live-entertainment venue at Götgatan 55, 116 21 Stockholm, a short walk from Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm. It opened as an SF cinema on 25 January 1928 with 1,307 seats, including a 541-seat balcony, and was designed in an American-inspired style. The lion above the entrance and the auditorium decorations were created by artist Einar Forseth, also known for the Byzantine-style mosaics in Stockholm City Hall’s Golden Hall. Since the 1990s, the venue has focused on musicals and theatre, while its concert history includes Swedish debuts by AC/DC, Metallica, R.E.M. and The Runaways; it now also hosts concerts, stand-up and other shows. Göta Lejon has about 1,120 seats today, and tickets are best booked in advance, with the box office opening two hours before each performance; the nearest metro station is Medborgarplatsen.
