Sturebadet AB

Sturebadet AB is a historic indoor bathhouse, spa, gym, and wellness centre inside Sturegallerian at Sturegallerian 36, near Stureplan in Stockholm’s Östermalm district. It opened in May 1885 on the initiative of physician and balneologist Professor Carl Curman, who modelled the facility on ancient Roman baths and promoted bathing, exercise, and public health. The original building was severely damaged by fire in 1985, then reconstructed and reopened in 1989 with the main pool and Turkish bath restored in their historic form; Greta Garbo is associated with the women’s Turkish bath in the 1920s. Facilities include heated pools, Turkish and steam baths, saunas, treatments, training areas, a restaurant, and a champagne lounge, making the interior’s late nineteenth-century bathing tradition its defining feature. Current hours are Monday to Friday 06:15–22:00 and Saturday–Sunday 08:30–20:30; spa treatments and day access should be reserved in advance, especially on weekday evenings and weekends.
