Forsgrénska Badet

Forsgrénska Badet is an indoor municipal swimming facility inside Medborgarhuset at Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm, with its entrance at Medborgarplatsen 6, near Götgatan and the square’s subway station. The bathhouse opened on 2 December 1939 as part of Medborgarhuset, designed by architect Martin Westerberg after an architectural competition and partly financed by the Forsgrénska fonden, which gave the pool its name. It was originally built as a diving pool; the historic basin measured 33.3 by 12 metres, could be converted to 25 metres with a removable bridge, and had six lanes and water-polo goals, although the diving tower was later removed. Today the facility includes a 25-metre pool and a distinctive connection to Stockholm’s 1930s civic architecture, while the wider Medborgarhuset complex also contained Sweden’s largest gymnasium when it opened. Regular reception hours are Monday through Thursday 06:30–21:00, Friday 12:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–16:00, and Sunday 10:00–17:00; pool hours can differ, so checking the day’s schedule before arriving is advisable.
