Göteborg Landvetter Airport
Göteborg Landvetter Airport is Sweden’s second-largest airport and the main international airport for western Sweden, not a museum or historic monument. It was built to replace Torslanda Airport; construction began in 1972 and it was inaugurated on 3 October 1977 by King Carl XVI Gustaf. The airport sits in Härryda Municipality, about 20 to 25 kilometers east of central Gothenburg and around 40 kilometers west of Borås, with the address in Landvetter. What makes it notable is its role as the region’s main aviation hub, with about 5.4 million passengers in 2025, roughly 80 to 79 direct destinations, and around 4,000 people working there. There are no set visiting hours like a landmark, but the airport itself runs continuously while shops, restaurants, and services follow flight schedules, so it is easiest to use outside peak departure times.
