Masthuggskyrkan

Masthuggskyrkan is a national-romantic parish church on Masthuggberget, at the top of the hill above Stigbergstorget in Gothenburg’s Masthugget district. Designed by architect Sigfrid Ericson after winning a 1907 competition, it was built between December 1910 and October 1914 and consecrated on 14 October 1914 by Bishop Edvard Herman Rodhe. Its granite base, steep rooflines, and tall tower draw on Viking-era and medieval forms, while the tower has served as a prominent maritime landmark visible across the city and harbour. Inside is Gothenburg Diocese’s largest church organ, originally built in 1914, and the elevated site provides broad views over the harbour and western Gothenburg. The church is open daily year-round, generally Tuesdays from 10:00 to 18:00, Thursdays from 10:00 to 14:00, and other days from 10:00 to 16:00; Sunday worship begins at 11:00, so weekday afternoons are usually quieter for viewing.
