Slagthuset
Slagthuset is a former municipal slaughterhouse now operating as a large event, concert, theatre, nightlife and lunch venue at Carlsgatan 12E in Malmö’s Nyhamnen district, roughly 100 steps from Malmö Central Station. The building was designed by Malmö city architect Salomon Sörensen and opened on 5 September 1904 as one of Europe’s most modern slaughterhouses; slaughtering ended in 1969, and Claes and Anita Schmidt took over the site in 1993, when it included Scandinavia’s largest nightclub. Today, Nyhamnen Nöje & Events AB runs 17 spaces, including the Theatre and the 925-square-metre Saluhallen, hosting concerts, parties, fairs, dinners and cultural events for groups of up to 1,500 people. The Theatre entrance is on Navigationsgatan 4, while most event entrances are on Jörgen Kocksgatan 7 and the restaurant entrance is at Carlsgatan 12E. The weekday lunch restaurant is normally open Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 13:30, but evening access depends on the event, so check the programme and reserve in advance for concerts, dinners or private functions.
