Vasaparken

Vasaparken is a large urban park in Stockholm’s Vasastaden district, stretching between Dalagatan, Odengatan, Torsgatan, and Hälsingegatan in postal area 113 22. Construction began in 1898, the park took its present name in 1900, and work continued through 1908; its layout includes broad lawns, an oval sports field, tree groups, rock gardens, and a former reflecting pool converted into a paddling pool in 1931. The park’s distinctive terraces beside Torsgatan were created in the 1940s by landscape architect Erik Glemme and represent the Stockholm Style, while the first playground opened in 1911. Facilities include a playground, football pitch, outdoor gym, pétanque and basketball courts, minigolf, dog area, seasonal ice rink, and a sensory garden; Stockholm Observatory, built in the eighteenth century, stands on the nearby hill of Observatorielunden and provides views across Vasastan. The park is open-air and free to enter at all times, with the liveliest atmosphere on summer afternoons and the sports field converted for skating in winter.
