Vete-Katten

Vete-Katten is a traditional Swedish patisserie, bakery, café, and chocolate shop at Kungsgatan 55, 111 22 Stockholm, a few blocks from Stockholm Central Station. Ester Nordhammar founded it in 1928 and ran the business until her death in 1961; it was unusual at the time because a woman owned and operated the establishment. The café is known for classic Swedish pastries including cinnamon buns, princess cake, semlor in season, pralines, cakes, and freshly baked bread, served in a maze of old-fashioned rooms behind the street-front shop. The Kungsgatan branch is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 20:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 19:00; mornings are quieter, while the pastry selection is broadest after the bakery’s early production.
