Zita Folkets Bio
Zita Folkets Bio is a three-screen repertory and art-house cinema at Birger Jarlsgatan 37, 111 45 Stockholm, near Stureplan and the Östermalmstorg area. The building, designed by Hagström & Ekman and completed in December 1912, opened as a cinema on 10 September 1913 under the name Vinter-Palatset, making Zita Stockholm’s oldest continuously operating cinema. It later became known as Rita in 1930 and reopened as Zita Folkets Bio in 1993 under the nonprofit cinema organisation Folkets Bio. The programme focuses on Swedish, international, independent and classic films, with dedicated children’s screenings through Barnens Bio and special series such as French Tuesdays. Opening hours vary with the schedule: the ticket office opens 30 minutes before the first screening and closes when the final evening screening begins; booking ahead is sensible for popular premieres and special events.
