How the guide is written
Two kinds of pages. We label them clearly.
Pages of places
Maintained by the places themselves. When a rate changes or a season opens, the page changes the same day. Information comes from their own systems, not from our keyboard. Every claim is checked against the patterns in aggregated guest reviews.
Everything else
Destination guides and seasonal advice, written by direct.guide from information straight from the places themselves and the people who know the area best.
Why isn't every hotel here? And do places pay?
Yes. Every place in the guide is a paying partner of Xbrandify, the company behind direct.guide. We're not hiding that; it's how the guide exists. What partnership does not buy is favorable treatment: no place can pay for praise, a better description, or the removal of what guests actually say. Every page is held against real review patterns, and claims that reviews don't support don't run. That standard is written into every partner agreement.
The guide is young and growing deliberately. We'd rather show you 20 places whose pages we can stand behind than 20,000 we can't.
The standard
- Live rates and availability from their own systems
- Claims verified against aggregated guest reviews
- Direct booking, no commissions, no markup
- A real person behind the concierge
- No ad-ranked placement: position can't be bought
How review verification works
For every place, we aggregate guest reviews from across channels and extract the consistent patterns: what guests repeatedly praise, and what they repeatedly mention as drawbacks. Both go on the page. Segment patterns are drawn from trip-type-tagged reviews. Summaries state the actual review count and sources, and update on a regular cycle.
