Filmstaden Råsunda

Filmstaden Råsunda is the historic former Swedish film studio complex, now called Gamla Filmstaden, with a modern three-screen cinema on the same site in Solna. It opened in 1920, when it was promoted as the world’s most modern film studio, and between 1919 and 1970 Svensk Filmindustri made more than 400 films here. The site is closely tied to Ingmar Bergman, who worked here on many of his films, and to Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman, who both began their careers in this film district. It is on Greta Garbos väg in Råsunda, with the historic area around Greta Garbos väg 3 and the cinema at Greta Garbos väg 9, near the border with Stockholm. What makes it distinctive is the preserved studio environment: old workshop buildings, the Portvaktsstugan, guided tours, a café, and a cinema inside a place that was once Sweden’s main film production hub; the visitor center is typically open Friday to Sunday, and the cinema has daily showing times that vary by date.
