The Knotted Gun / Non Violence

The Knotted Gun, also called Non-Violence, is a bronze sculpture of an oversized Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver with its barrel tied in a knot, created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd as a memorial to John Lennon after his 1980 assassination . The Malmö version was unveiled in 1985 and stands on 1 Bagers Plats, a small square opposite Anna Lindhs plats near the city’s western canal and close to Malmö Central Station . It is one of roughly 22 copies worldwide and became the official symbol of the Non-Violence Project in 1996, making it a recognized international emblem of peace . The sculpture rests on a granite base, and its bronze surface shifts in color through oxidation, offering different visual tones depending on the season and light . Since it is an outdoor public artwork, it is accessible 24 hours a day with no entry fee or reservation needed, and early morning or late afternoon visits provide the best lighting for photos .
