Museum of Modern Art

Moderna Museet is Sweden’s state museum for modern and contemporary art, with collections ranging from the early 20th century to photography dating back to 1840. It originally opened in 1958 on Skeppsholmen, and the current building was designed by the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo and inaugurated on 12 February 1998. It is located at Exercisplan 4 on Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm, a short walk from the city center and close to the water and bridge access to the island. The museum is known for major works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Henri Matisse, Marcel Duchamp, Louise Bourgeois, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Robert Rauschenberg, plus the museum’s collection of 20th- and 21st-century art and its restaurant, café, and shop. It is usually open Tuesday to Sunday, with later hours on Tuesday and Friday, and is closed on Monday.
