Boteå kyrka

Boteå kyrka is a medieval stone parish church serving Boteå församling in Härnösands stift, originally built in the 12th century as one of the oldest along Ångermanälven in Ådalen. A southern transept arm was added around the mid-15th century, the interior ceiling got three star vaults in the 16th century, a new stone sacristy went up in 1660, and a freestanding bell tower by byggmästare Eurenius was constructed in 1788 then clad in white-painted panel during the 19th century. You'll find it on Västerhällan 212 in Undrom, elevated above riksväg 334 with the kyrkogård wrapping around. The large bell dates to 1429 but cracked during the death tolling for Gustaf II Adolf in 1632 and was recast, while the small bell is from 1670; inside, the altarpiece mixes baroque and rococo with a pulpit from 1765, though medieval silver like a 14th-century gilded paten and early 17th-century Hamburg wine jug were stolen in a break-in. The current 13-stop organ by Fratelli Ruffatti from Italy was installed in 2018 after a unreliable 1954 German one was replaced. It's open for services and concerts year-round, plus weekdays 9-15 during weeks 26-32 in summer; call +46 620 83500 otherwise since no one's always around.
