Jokkmokks gamla kyrka

Jokkmokks gamla kyrka is a church building in central Jokkmokk, on Köpmangatan 8, and the site has been used for church purposes since the 1700s. The first church on the spot was erected in 1607, and the octagonal timber church that stood there later was inaugurated in 1753; that church was destroyed in a fire in 1972 and then reconstructed, with the current building reopened in 1976. The present church has a modern interior, and the reconstruction was designed by architect Herbert Juhlin using the burned church as the model for the exterior. It is especially known as one of the most important landmarks in Jokkmokk and as a regular worship site, with Saturday evening services held throughout the year.
