Malmö Opera

Malmö Opera is an opera house and performing arts venue, first built between 1933 and 1944 and originally known as the Malmö City Theatre before taking the name Malmö Opera in 1992. It was designed by the Swedish architect Sigurd Lewerentz, and today the house is used for opera, operetta, and musicals. The building stands at Östra Rönneholmsvägen 20 in the 211 47 district of Malmö, near the city center and easily reached from the surrounding downtown area. It is notable for being one of the largest auditoriums in Scandinavia, with 1,511 seats, and for its enclosed amphitheatre layout, which gives unusually good sightlines from the hall. Visitors usually go for the mainstage productions and the large foyer; checking the current performance schedule and booking ahead is the practical way to plan a visit.
