Berwaldhallen
Berwaldhallen is a concert hall, not a bar, at Dag Hammarskjölds väg 3 beside Radiohuset in Stockholm’s Östermalm district. Designed by architects Erik Ahnborg and Sune Lindström for Sveriges Radio, it was inaugurated on 30 November 1979 and named after Swedish composer Franz Berwald. Two-thirds of the brutalist building lies underground in granite, protecting Djurgården’s surroundings from a bulky structure while improving acoustic isolation; the hall seats up to 1,304 people. It is the home stage of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Swedish Radio Choir, with programmes ranging from classical repertoire to contemporary and crossover concerts. Berwaldhallen is generally open only around performances: doors and the physical box office open two hours before the scheduled start, while tickets can be bought online until the concert begins.
