Junibacken
Junibacken is a children’s cultural centre and museum in Stockholm devoted to Swedish children’s literature, especially the stories of Astrid Lindgren. It was officially opened on 8 June 1996 by the Swedish Royal Family and was founded by Staffan Götestam, Fredrik Uhrström, and Peder Wallenberg. The venue sits on Djurgården at Galärvarvsvägen 8, in the 115 21 Stockholm district, close to the waterfront and central Stockholm’s museum area. Its best-known features are the Story Train, theatrical performances, playful exhibition spaces, and Sweden’s largest children’s bookstore, with a bronze statue of Astrid Lindgren outside the building. It opens daily, usually from 10:00 to 17:00, with longer summer hours in July and August, and booking ahead is sensible because it is one of Stockholm’s most visited attractions.
