Katarinahissen
Katarinahissen is a historic public elevator connecting Stadsgården and Katarinavägen with Mosebacke torg on Södermalm, beside Slussen at Stadsgården 1, postal code 116 45 Stockholm. The original lift opened on 19 March 1883 after engineer Knut Lindmark developed it to help harbour workers reach the elevated neighbourhood; it was steam-powered at first and converted to electricity in 1915. That structure was dismantled in 1933 during the Slussen reconstruction, and the present steel-truss elevator was completed in 1935–1936 as part of the KF building, designed by Eskil Sundahl and Olof Thunström, with engineer Hjalmar Granholm responsible for its construction. The lift rises about 38 metres and provides views across Lake Mälaren, Riddarfjärden, Gamla stan, Stadsgården and the Stockholm waterways, while the adjacent walkway leads directly toward Mosebacke torg and the restaurant Gondolen. After a lengthy renovation, Katarinahissen reopened in October 2023; current visitor information lists daily operating hours of 08:00–22:00, though strong winds or technical maintenance can temporarily interrupt service.
