Åhléns City

Åhléns City is Stockholm’s flagship department store, selling fashion, beauty products, home furnishings, children’s goods, and everyday essentials across the Åhléns range. It opened on 9 September 1964, following the company’s development from the mail-order business Åhlén & Holm, founded in 1899 by Johan Petter Åhlén and Erik Holm in Insjön, Dalarna. The store occupies the Gripen block at Klarabergsgatan 50 in Norrmalm, close to Stockholm Central Station, T-Centralen, and Hötorget; the Mäster Samuelsgatan 57 entrance is the most accessible for visitors using mobility aids. Its main distinction is its scale and status as the company’s flagship, making it a practical one-stop destination in central Stockholm rather than a specialist boutique. Current regular hours are Monday–Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–19:00, and Sunday 11:00–19:00; weekday mornings are generally the calmest time to browse.
