da Matteo Vallgatan

da Matteo Vallgatan is a specialty-coffee café at Vallgatan 5, in the courtyard where Vallgatan meets Magasinsgatan in central Gothenburg. Founded by Matts Johansson in 2003, da Matteo opened this café and its on-site roastery in July 2007; the roasting operation moved to Magasinsgatan in 2010, leaving more room for café seating, with an additional floor added in 2014. The courtyard setting is its defining feature, offering a quieter, year-round space just off the busy shopping streets, while the café serves da Matteo’s own roasted coffee alongside bread and pastries from its bakery. It is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00; no reservation is normally needed, but weekday mornings are the calmest time to find courtyard seating.
