Gamla Stans Polkagriskokeri
Gamla Stans Polkagriskokeri is a candy shop and working confectionery at Stora Nygatan 44 in Stockholm’s Old Town, where visitors can watch polkagrisar being pulled and shaped by hand. The family business was founded in 2011 by two men from Gränna, the Swedish town associated with polkagris production, and it follows a tradition established by Amalia Eriksson, who began making the peppermint candy in Gränna in 1857. The shop sells classic red-and-white peppermint sticks alongside modern flavors, fudge, and other handmade sweets. Its main appeal is the visible craft process: hot sugar is stretched, twisted, striped, and cut directly in the shop rather than produced invisibly in a factory. Opening hours are generally daily from 10:00 to 20:00, although checking the shop’s website before visiting is sensible because production times and seasonal hours can vary.
