Nordiska museet

Nordiska museet is Sweden’s largest cultural-history museum, devoted to everyday life, traditions, design, clothing, food, and social history across the Nordic region from the 1500s to the present. Its monumental building on Djurgårdsvägen 6–16, directly after Djurgårdsbron and opposite the Vasa Museum, was designed by architect Isak Gustaf Clason and opened in 1907; the Great Hall contains a large wooden sculpture of King Gustav Vasa, created by Carl Milles. Exhibitions include Nordbor, covering 500 years of Nordic life, a furnished 1947 apartment, historic table settings, miniature dollhouses, and a children’s playhouse depicting a Swedish farm from the 1890s. The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on Wednesdays from September through May; weekday free-admission periods and seasonal exceptions should be checked before arriving.
