Scenkonstmuseet
Scenkonstmuseet is Sweden’s state museum for music, theatre, dance and puppetry, housed in the historic Kronobageriet on Sibyllegatan 2, beside Väpnarplan in Östermalm, Stockholm. Its history began with the theatre and music exhibition at Stockholm’s 1897 General Art and Industrial Exhibition; the Musikhistoriska museet was founded on 12 March 1899 after an initiative signed by Gunnar Wennerberg, Sven Scholander, Ivar Hallström and Lars Zetterqvist. After rebuilding and a name change, Scenkonstmuseet opened on 11 February 2017 as part of Statens musikverk. The collection contains nearly 50,000 objects, including costumes, original manuscripts, stage-design models, puppets and more than 6,000 instruments, some dating to the early seventeenth century, while interactive stations let visitors experiment with sound, movement and theatrical expression. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00 and closed Mondays; the entrance is from Väpnarplan.
