Vrak – Museum of Wrecks
Vrak – Museum of Wrecks is a maritime archaeological museum at Djurgårdsstrand 17 on Royal Djurgården, between the Vasa Museum and Gröna Lund amusement park. It opened in September 2021 and presents the cultural history of wrecks and people connected to the Baltic Sea, using digital reconstructions, immersive film, holograms and virtual reality rather than displaying entire ships. Exhibitions include the Resande Man, a ship that sank during a storm in November 1660, Viking-era finds from Salme in Estonia, Baltic warships and trading vessels, and material related to the sinking of MS Estonia. Copper ship sculptures by artist Borney Bergstrand decorate the museum’s staircase, while the Sea of Memories cinema creates an underwater film experience. From September through May it is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with Wednesday hours until 20:00; from June through August it stays open until 18:00 daily, and Wednesday evenings are the best option for a quieter extended visit.
