Strindbergsmuseet

Strindbergsmuseet is a museum dedicated to August Strindberg, the Swedish writer, playwright, novelist, essayist, poet, and painter, and it is set in his last home, the building he called Blå tornet, or the Blue Tower. Strindberg moved into the apartment in 1908 and lived there until his death in 1912; the museum later opened in the preserved apartment and library space in the same building. It is at Drottninggatan 85 in Norrmalm, on the corner of Drottninggatan and Tegnérgatan, a short walk from the Rådmansgatan metro station. What makes it stand out is the reconstructed three-room apartment, the library of about 3,000 books, and rooms that still show Strindberg’s working environment, along with temporary exhibitions and events. The museum is generally open Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00 and closed on Mondays, with free entry for visitors under 19 and a modest admission fee for adults, so a weekday early in the opening hours is usually the calmest time to go.
